I just got back yesterday from Belém do Pará, a city in the Northern region of Brazil, mentioned briefly in Ian McDonald´s Brasyl. I was invited to the XII Feira Pan-Amazônica do Livro (XII Pan-Amazonic Book Fair), to sign my book on the work of William Gibson (available in Portuguese only, at least for the time being), met an old friend whom I hadn´t seen in almost twenty years and found out many things science-fictional, most of them steampunkish, like an immense water tank built by Gustave Eiffel in the late 19th Century. Photos as soon as I figure how upload them from my Sony Cybershot.
In the next few days: an interview with John Scalzi, plus a review of Tom Disch´s Camp Concentration, part of Larry´s Blogger Book Club effort which will start on the week of October 13-17.
And, speaking of Larry, I want to thank him for putting this humble scribe in his bookshelf among so many excellent writers such as Umberto Eco, José Saramago, and Italo Calvino. I don´t deserve it, but it sure feels good. :-)
